Hmwrk 8(or maybe 7?)

This ted talk was awesome I love J.J. Abrams "The Force Awakens" was done very well! I understand what he's getting across and it's a pretty cool message. At least I believe he's trying to say things don't have to be black and white meaning don't put limitations on yourself! An example of this is how he had Tom Cruise use his own hand in basically this torture scene because the other actor was hurting Cruise. This shows how Abrams thought about a unique and different method outside of the norm to get his scene across.

This was a great article! The first thing that stood out to me was the "keep your line lengths short"aspect that the article covered. This is a big thing that I always keep in mind when working with computer programs. Know one wants to read lengthy sentences it gets tiresome and confusing after a while. Its good to know that, that's a major rule to follow according to that article. Even though I put a focus to that rule all of them were helpful and insightful!

This assignment is tough I like a lot of different movie posters. If I had to choose one It'd definitely be the Japanese poster for "Star Wars Return of the Jedi". I really do love that poster mainly because of the way it's covered with characters. The way the red bold lettering contradicts the moody colors used for the rest of the poster is something I also like. However the main aspects that ultimately led me to choose the poster is Darth Vader. The way he's portrayed in this poster makes him look like the big bad ass character that he is!

Movie poster premise

My movie will be called Ninja Kid and it'll be based around a kid whose a genius with ninja traits. No matter if it's stealth, weaponry handling, hand to hand combat, or just smart thinking. The kid is superior at his profession than all his peers, however there is one person who poses a threat to him. Somebody who was also regarded as a prodigy at a young age!

Before the article gets into Dustin Stanton's work they ask him about his background and how he initially got started designing movie posters. When he responded he said something that I really liked which was "In the hallways at the agency, all the posters that they had designed were hanging and I was a bit struck by it all, thinking...'Wow, I could do that too!" I love that quote, I feel the same way about all the things I find interesting rather it be designing graphics, painting, or drawing when I see others works instead of thinking its impossible for me to do I always tell myself I can do that no matter how grand the work may be. This might seem arrogant, but I believe having a high confidence in a more creative work field is very important. Stanton had that confidence and created awesome posters. From "There Will Be Blood" to "The Master" these posters would of never came into fruition if Stanton wasn't confident in his abilities.

I enjoyed this ted talk more than the other Tim brown one. I liked how he talks about 3rd world countries advancing and exploring their technology without having equipment that we have, it conveys his whole message to think big! I also liked how he talks about taking a "divergent" approach to the thinking process which causes for new alternatives/choices.

This story hit home with me kind of. I've recently realized that your art work doesn't have to be super detailed and realistic for it to be considered good and or well made. Dave Perillo style is a clear example of something less realistic being well made and successful. "Also a fan of pop artist like Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, they showed me art doesn't have to be so serious." That quote from the interview really put it into my mind that having a simple, creative, original design can take you far as an artist.

Homework 2(Design of useful things)

This was a pretty interesting video. Paola Antonelli made great points about how designs of every day useful things was very important. People don't really associate everyday useful items with art, but having a more creative and artistic out look on the designs of everyday things can make the functionality of the piece more interesting and better. The more creative you are while creating something the better outcome/finished project you will have made. Being creative with designs pushes the limits of functionality, which is only steps forward towards a overall better product.

Homework 1

"How to ruin a great design" was an interesting article that was written by someone who had gripes about certain designs that they believe were done poorly. The writer brings up a lot of great points about her problems with the designs some companies use now. However I believe she was overly dramatic about some of her problems. For example her complaint about the "D" in the "Diverted Cyclist" sign is a little much. Her complaint about it being distracting is exaggerated.
